Historical Information

previous hit Mathews  next hit previous hit County  next hit was named for Thomas previous hit Mathews  next hit, of Norfolk, the Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates in 1790 when the previous hit county  next hit was formed from Gloucester previous hit County  next hit.

Most records were burned in Richmond on 3 April 1865, where they had been moved for safekeeping during the Civil War.

Scope and Content

Miscellaneous Records, 1896, 1944, undated, consist of a flag of the Lane-Diggs Grand Camp of Confederate Veterans, a pre-1959 American flag, a replica of the final flag of Confederate States of America, John W. Cooke's correspondence, and the Robertson Hospital Reunion Register.
